LAB 1 GIS
Jeff Hessburg
Goal And Background
For this lab, a pretend intern at Clear Vision in Eau Claire was needed to work on a project. Clear vision is a
county wide initiative to develop a collaborative vision for Eau Claire. This company is teaming up with UWEC and Eau Claire Regional arts Center. They are wanting to construct a new development at the confluence of the Chippewa and Eau Claire Rivers in downtown Eau Claire. This development is a community arts center/university student housing and commercial retail complex, it is refereed to as the Confluence Project. The goal is to
become familiar with various spatial data sets used in public land management, administration,
and land use, then to prepare base maps for the Confluence Project. The intern needs to became familiar with the data provided, to create several maps illustrating different information needed in the creation of the Confluence Project.
Methods
In order to
properly finish the lab and create the maps, several things were needed. First, become familiar with the data. Secondly, be able to
learn how to create a geodatabase necessary for the completion of every map.
Third, the creation of a suitable template that all 6 maps can fit on. Fourth, follow the instructions in the lab; know how to
utilize the proper tools in ArcGIS to be able to add the right sets of data,
and make them all look aesthetically pleasing, while including all the
information that needs to be displayed. Lastly, create titles
for every map, add legends, add scales, and add call-outs pointing to the
Confluence Project
Results
Each map shown above highlights the proposed site for the Confluence Project in the city of Eau Claire. Along with that, each map has its own special features that highlights something different. What is highlighted is included in the legend and title of each map.
